Ball o' Fun

Today, Abigail has been walking for a week, and is quite the little walker! She seems to always be so pleased with herself as she goes from point A to point B.

Look who's 1

This past Monday, we took Abigail to her one year old checkup. She had her iron level checked and received 4 shots... MMR, Chickenpox (Varivax), Hep A, and a pnemococcal conjugate vaccine (Prevnar). I think these may have been the worst shots yet. She's had four shots at once before, but these were a bit more painful.

On a better note, Abigail is growing really well, and is still on her curves! 90% for height, 50% for weight. She is now 30.5" tall and weighs 21 lbs 1 oz. She's over 2.5 feet tall!!! A huge change from a year ago when she was born at 21" tall and weighed 7 lbs 15 oz.

What is Abigail doing now?
  • Walking!!!! She took her very first steps on May 19 and a week into walking is becoming quite the little walker. Before you know it she'll be running everywhere!
  • Eating. She eats everything we eat. However, we are still not giving her nuts yet... though have been cleared by the pediatrician. And honey will probably be a bit later. Abigail's favorites are broccoli, avocado, peas, chicken, hot dogs, crackers, goldfish, and bananas. We've introduced her to yogurt, whole milk, and cottage cheese. Not a fan of the cottage cheese yet, but we'll get there.
  • Pokes all buttons, even if it looks like a button she'll poke it to see what it will do.
  • Throws fits! Yes! Don't take anything away from her that she wants, or take her away from an activity she wants to do!
  • Cuddles! She loves to cuddle with anything soft.... her blankets, stuffed animals, Daddy, Mommy, Collin, Molly, Molly's beds....
  • Climb, climb, climb. Even if it is not meant for climbing, it shall be scaled. She even likes to climb down things. Abby learned a month or two ago how to climb down a step, and now tries to get down off of everything.
  • Climbs into her little girl chairs, turns around and sits in them.
  • If it moves, she will push it. And spend an hour doing so. Chairs, strollers, walkers, ottomans with wheels,.. anything!
  • Playing in water is her favorite. This includes Molly's water bowl, but we try to limit her to her little baby pool, bathtub, and water table.
  • Reading. Books are everywhere!
  • Abby is now "baby talking" to babies that are younger than her. It's too funny!
  • As for now, bed time is 7:00pm and Abigail wakes us up around 6:30am. She has a morning nap from 9-10am and an afternoon nap from 2-3pm.
(If I can think of anything I've missed, I will add on later!)

Abigail Turns One

Happy 1st Birthday to our sweet little Abigail!

Today, Abigail Eloise decided to take her first non-divebomb steps! Welford and I were so blessed this morning to both witness her first movements! Granted, she only went about 2" with 3 steps, we were so proud of her! This week she started to stand up on her own, without holding on to anything. Now, she's braving the foot moves! She must enjoy it, because now she'll do it for about 10 minutes at a time... play for a while... and try it again for another 10 minutes. :D What a one year old!

and they call it puppy love

I have no idea why she loves Collin so much. It's so funny. She doesn't light up with Molly to the same degree as she does him. We guess because he's a huge, fluffy friend.

Collin moaned at her before the camera started to roll... and of course Abby imitates him. Reminds me of the fire truck walk.... :D

Cutest Climber

I've mentioned before that Abigail loves to climb, she will try to climb on anything! Her new favorite time (now that she has figured out how to open the drawer under the stove) is pulling out all of the pot lids and climbing into the stove drawer. She loves it. And it didn't take much to get this big smile from her for a quick pic. And, she has learned to climb up on her little rocking chair and sit in it! So cute, I'll have to take a picture of her doing that sometime. Today it was a bit perilous, she stood up on it! Oh, baby!

Can't believe she's turning 1 on Wednesday!

Our Great Helper

Abby and I decided to play outside on a cool day, savoring a break from the heat. As we bundled up, I thought it funny that only a few days ago we were looking for this coolness... and now I was looking for warm clothes, most of which I have boxed up. We joined Welford outside, already in progress of his project of replacing grass. We're trying to spruce up the backyard for Abby's birthday party! Soon, Abby grew tired of the toys I brought outside for her and wanted to help Daddy plant grass.

"Daddy, you dig, I'll pour."

"Where do you want this patch of grass?"

She's such a good little helper!

Swim, Swim, Swimmer

Beating the afternoon heat with a cool dip!

What?!

Walking?!?!?!
Today, May 4, 2010, Abigail Eloise has taken her first unassisted steps!

This video was certainly not the longest stepping Abigail has done today, but it's hard to hold a camera to capture a good image and catch her inevitable fall with one hand. But she seems to love taking unassisted steps. Every time she lights up as she goes. So far, 5 steps has been the max!!!!

Gross Grass

hahahaha, Abby doesn't like grass. She really, really, really doesn't like the feel of grass on her feet. I'm working slowly but surely to get her to put her feet in the grass.

So this is where she ends up when we're playing in the backyard. It is just so funny, because she will pick it and eat it, but really doesn't like the feel of it on her feet.

Molly likes grass.

Loving You

Is easy because you're beautiful.

Williamsburg

Our first family visit to Colonial Williamsburg! (April 29, 2010) It was a beautiful day to walk around outside. We thought of visiting a park for a hike, but decided to go to Williamsburg and walk around instead. And as a bonus, visit with G'ma and G'pa Doyal. Woohoo!

Abby's favorite part of Williamsburg were the horses. She squealed every time a carriage went by. I don't think she cared for the bulls very much. Perhaps because they were so big, and so close!

We had a wonderful time, ate lunch at a tavern, and even wandered onto W&M's campus for a bit. After a day of walking, we settled in with G'ma and G'pa for a lovely time and dinner too! It was great to see them, Abby was quite taken with a wind mill... but scared of the cardinal wind sock :D Silly girl!

Summer Breeze

It's been hot. And I mean, in the 80s-90s hot. And humid.

So this past Saturday, we were going to avoid the heat and stay inside to clean the house. Mainly because someone has a birthday coming up! Well, we decided to venture out to Walmart to get a few things. On the way in, we saw a guy carrying out a baby pool. KaZam! Guess what we got?! Not only did we get a pool, but we got a canopy to shade us from the sun while playing in the pool. Wow, and play we did. So much for housework!Abby loves her new pool. It's the best of all worlds, being outside AND being in the tub. Yes!
Abby also likes her new trowel... a splurge buy at Walmart as well. A girl has to have outdoor toys right? One day she can help Mommy & Daddy in the garden with it.

Until then, she can practice scooping water.

Molly, however, is not a fan of baths. And therefore, NOT a fan of the pool. She was quite content to watch Abby play in it. One day we'll get her in.... one day!
